What is Foundations of Recovery - Horses in Ministry & how does it work?

The TFO Farm Foundations Programs are a series of custom-designed, equine-assisted learning (E.A.L.) sessions for youth, adults, couples, families and/or organizational teams. Our E.A.L. activities tend to be life changing, educational, relational, & restorative, so come expecting a true adventure in personal growth. TFO Farm staff and horses model, demonstrate and teach recovery & leadership principles found in the Holy Bible (and as reiterated in Celebrate Recovery® curriculum). Outcomes are driven by what and how much of yourself YOU invest, so depending upon your specific goals and interests, sessions may involve:

  • Team-building activities
  • Equine-assisted learning (E.A.L.) exercises
  • Meaningful farm adventures
  • Relationship-strengthening
  • Bible teaching
  • Art/music projects
  • Focus groups
  • Personal reflection time
  • Worship
  • Writing assignments

 Each equine-assisted coaching session builds upon the one before it. Students are encouraged to commit to all scheduled sessions and complete all pre-session homework assignments.

Whatever your current situation, God has your answers. The only requirement for participation in recovery training among the TFO Herd are two DESIRES:

  1. to affirm for what's right about you,
  2. to change what isn't working anymore.


The TFO Farm FoR-HiM Horsemanship Program is designed to be life changing, educational, relational, safe & fun for individuals & families seeking restoration and healing. No horse experience is necessary.

The Foundations of Vision for Teams Programs are equine-assisted experiential learning workshops that seek to identify, exemplify and impart Biblical leadership and teamwork principles to your crew, managerial staff or executive leadership team. Equine-Assisted Learning (E.A.L.) activities are designed to reveal & propel the full potential of your team, better equipping them to accomplish their mission.


No horse experience is necessary. PATH Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor, Deb Peterson and her horses will facilitate a program to move your team closer to the full realization of the vision for your business, organization or ministry.   2. Scholarship Program: Full or partial tuition may be covered for qualified students who meet eligibility requirements. You won't know if you qualify until you apply!
